Morgantown Rod and Gun Club Meeting Minutes July 23rd, 2025

Meeting Called to Order:

·         7:00 pm by President Brian Ink.

Members in Attendance:

·         There were 14 members and one new applicant in attendance. 

Minutes of Last Meeting:

·         Read by Secretary Josh Creswell, motion to accept by Bob Grimley, seconded by Dalton Ink.

Treasurer Report:

·         Read by Treasurer Jeff Creswell, motion to accept by Donny Myers, seconded by Dalton Ink.

·         Income came from the dues.

·         Expenses included electric, IRS form fee, property taxes, and the credit card for a tree saw and nippers, raffle tickets, and envelopes.

New Business:

·         The club received a letter stating that the NRA membership was due to be renewed.  There was a discussion as to weather the club should continue to be a member in light of recent controversy involving the leadership of the NRA.  It was noted that membership did not benefit the club in the past since applying for grants was difficult and not worthwhile.  The renewal fee is $40 for one year or $175 for five years.  It was decided to renew the club’s membership since being affiliated with the NRA looks good for the club.

·         A list will be started of necessary maintenance for the next workday.  Railroad ties will be needed.

·         Member’s Only raffle tickets are in the mail.  The winner will get a choice of one of two guns from the Whitetails event while the second-place winner will receive the other gun not selected.

·         The club discussed the possible need to get a ‘small game of chance’ license.  It would cost $125 per year.  Brian noted that every dollar will need to be accurately accounted since the club could get audited with this license.  Jeff stated that the financial records are already very accurate and that this would not be an issue.

·         Brian will contact Clyde from Whitetails Unlimited to find out the dates and information for next year’s event.

New Members:

·         There was one new applicant, Daniel Myers, sponsored by Donny Myers Jr.

·         None

Unfinished Business:

·         Jeff is continuing to pursue getting the club set up for income taxes.  He filled out the necessary forms.  Brian talked to an accountant.  The club is waiting for approval and should know by the end of the year.

·         Donny will reach out to someone for millings to use in the club driveway.  There was as discussion as to the water runoff problem that continues to wash away the gravel.  It was stated that water could be piped across the top of the driveway.

·         It was determined that the club will wait until October to extend the pistol range.  A deck structure will be used for support of this extension.

·         The club still does not know who is taking videos at the club and leaving a mess on the rage.  One member was found to be taken videos and was present at the meeting.  This is not the person that the club is concerned about.  He wanted to ask permission to continue his filming and address any issues the club may have.  Guidelines for taking videos was discussed since it is not technically against club rules.  The member that came is very respectful of other people when he takes videos and does not show any identifying features of the club.  He takes videos to demonstrate and review guns for gun companies.  This member brought free merchandise such as hats and shirts from gun companies he works with.  The club will come up with a list of rules for filming at the club and send it out as an email to alert other members.
