Morgantown Rod and Gun Club Meeting Minutes June 25th, 2025

Meeting Called to Order:

·         7:00 pm by President Brian Ink.

Members in Attendance:

·         There were 13 members and one returning applicant in attendance. 

Minutes of Last Meeting:

·         Read by Secretary Josh Creswell, motion to accept by Bob Grimley, seconded by Dalton Ink.

Treasurer Report:

·         Read by Treasurer Jeff Creswell, motion to accept by Jason Ink, seconded by Sharon Baer.

·         Income came from the dues, application fees, and the Whitetails Unlimited event.

·         Expenses included electric and the credit card for soda and water, trash bags, PO box rental, background checks, and wire for the range.

New Business:

·         Both guns from the Whitetails event will be used for the Fall, member’s only raffle which will be drawn at the September shotgun shoot.

·         The club needs to begin filing for income taxes every year.  Jeff found a form online to register the club for taxes.  The club has not filed for around 10 years and has become deactivated.  Taxes need to be filed in order for the club to invest money in CDs or funds.  Members were asked if there were any recommendations for an accountant to help the club get started.  Brian will talk to someone that he knows who may be able to help.

·         There are severe ruts in the driveway because the ditch and pipes system is not working. The quarry could drag the driveway to help for this Summer.  The club will talk with Donny Myers about options for a better, long-term solution.

·         The club will need sand for the pistol range and the upcoming range extension.  Building the extension will be on hold until the weather is cooler.

·         Shotgun shoots will resume starting in August.  R. W. Castro is planning to hold pistol shoots after the shotgun shoots if there is enough interest.

New Members:

·         One returning applicant, Chad Eberly, sponsored by Paul Stolz Jr., was voted into the club.  One returning applicant, Nicholas Stolz, also sponsored by Paul Stolz Jr., was not in attendance but will be at the meeting next month.

Old Business:

·         The check from the Whitetails event was received.  Everyone agreed that the event was worthwhile and generated more money for the club than was originally thought.  The club need to declare how this money will be used and it was decided to use this money to extend the pistol range.  The Whitetails organization asked the club to send them pictures of how the money was used.

·         George Emanuel’s Pistol Beyond the Basics class was cancelled.

·         Rob Dillow held his Basic Pistol class.  Three people signed up but only one participated in the course.

Unfinished Business:

·         Another company was contacted about the purposed electronic gate.  Their design only works from one code rather than different codes for each member, so it was deemed not practical for the club’s needs.  The discussion about an electronic gate continued.  The benefits would be time and postage saved on mailing renewal cards, people not sharing the code with non-members, and having the ability to determine who was at the club during a given time.  The downside is the high up-front cost to build the gate and electronic system.
