The pistol shoots are over for 2013. If you didn't take the opportunity to participate as a shooter or spectator, you definitely missed out. We had a lot of fun, some good shooting(and some not too good shooting!) and great food. First and second place winners of the shoots won cash prizes and for the last shoot we also had a drawing for the "losers" for a $20 ACME gift card and a $25 Cabela's gift card.
Thanks to everyone who helped out this year. Mike and Diane Willis for providing the food, Wes Gordner for handling the registrations and money, Bill Cahill and Bob Grimley for taking care of the shooting line and Lydia Creswell, Paul Sherman, Donny Myers and John Fessler for helping score targets. And lastly to all the shooter who handled themselves and their firearms safely.
We are looking for ideas to improve the pistol shoots next year. Some ideas tossed around so far are:
Pay first place to high score. Pay second place by random drawing.
Reduce cost and pay out more positions.
Have shoots on second Saturday of the month.
Have shoots fourth Saturday or Sunday of the month.
Hold more shoots: possibly in March, April, August, Sept and Oct.
Get some sponsors to put up additional prizes, gift cards, etc. to be handed out by random drawing of non-winners.
Speed rounds - limited time for one or more targets.
Change format - similar to Cowboy Action or combination of speed, accuracy.
Drawing at the end of the "season" for free membership or no application fee membership. Must attend all shoots
Please let me know if you have any more ideas or suggestions. Any changes will be reviewed and voted on at the club meetings.
Remember that the shotgun shoots will be starting up again on August 11th.
